The luxurious and exclusive Royal Santrian Villas in Tanjung Benoa Harbour near Nusa Dua, is designed in a royal Balinese architectural style with a modern twist. The property is a sister hotel to both the Puri Santrian and Griya Santrian in Sanur. Set in a colossal 2.5 hectares of lush tropical gardens the Royal Santrian hosts 22 self-contained villa cottages, mostly of the Deluxe Suite type, with a few Royal Suites for those who are willing to spare no expense.
Only a few months old, and already making an impact. The Royal Santrian is up there as one of the ‘must stay’ properties, for the discerning traveler. This beachfront resort is so well designed it has that magic wow factor from the moment you step into the lobby. From here is an uninterrupted view across the spacious rich green lawn to the length of the dark blue pool to the ocean.
The lobby itself is a small glass enclosed room offering the amazing views. Furnished with simply with some lounges the lobby features striking traditional and brightly coloured Balinese doors leading to the offices beyond.
The villas themselves are discreetly tucked away behind lavish greenery. It’s all very low rise with the villa roofs peeking out above the bougainvilleas and frangipani. Space is a key word in the design of this property.
Each villa is accessed through a set of the colourful Balinese doors and within each private ‘compound’ there is a good sized private pool, open air gazebos,
and private dining areas (24-hour full room service), a fridge (stocked with complimentary fruit juices and soft drinks), all surrounded by tropical gardens.
The villas offer masses of space and are so tastefully decorated it’s almost unbelievable. The beds are amazingly comfortable, the bathroom super-sized with an all glass shower room and there is even an outdoor shower in the private courtyard. Attention to detail is what makes the Royal Santrian stand out, whether in the villa, the grounds or the restaurant you will be hard pushed to find fault in this property.
The resort’s signature restaurant Allspice features outdoor shades of sandstone contrasting with the warm ginger and gold colours of the open dining area. Chinese carved cabinets sit among dark burgundy sofas in the cigar lounge. The dining areas are eclectic in design with one consistency – glassed floor-to-ceiling windows that break up the areas in a subtle manner as you move from the wine bar to the sushi bar, without noting too much that there are no walls in between.
Mr I B Ngurah Kumbayana, managing director of the group, had an architect draw up the resort but the design is completely his idea down to each light bulb, rug and tile.
