Interior Design: Glamorous Co and Nicholas Graham + Associates

Located in West Kowloon, the hub of the buzzing financial district of Hong Kong, the new W Hong Kong fuses West with East, thanks to Japan’s Glamorous Co. and Australia’s Nicholas Graham + Associates.

Of all the Starwood brands, W hotels are the one that take the most design risks. They’re fun, funky and fab.

Elements of wood, stone, water, fire and metal – the five essential Chinese elements – are used generously throughout the hotel’s colourful spaces. A feature wall in the lobby is of raked soil in subtle colour gradations. Giant columns clad to mimic tree trunks continue the theme.

The triple height lobby is amazing featuring a series of suspended tree branches above the glass entrance with LED lights in the twigs forming the W logo.

Both G+A and Glamorous designed rooms; G+A has incorporated tree rings as a graphic pattern on walls and tend towards earthy tones, Glamorous turns the space into a garden of earthly delights with a nod at Japanese anime, and lean towards startling splashes of yellows and blues.

Particularly stunning is the hotel’s magnificent rooftop pool which is perched almost 700 feet above sea level and features a beautiful butterfly mosaic created by Australian designer Fabio Ongarato.
