Axolotl at Mejico

Axolotl was approached by Matt Woods Design to create this custom distressed sheet metal feature wall for Mejico, in Westfield Miranda.

The wall was created from .7mm thick zinc panels, which were laser cut into lineal strips and installed in a tile format to create a feature to the entry of the restaurant.

The brief was for a raw, black steel. Axolotl blackened and distressed each panel individually, resulting in the unique patination seen across the wall.

The pre-aged metal finish works well as it gives an established patina to new projects. The organic nature of the ageing process enables an intended inconsistency in the panels, just as the material would do naturally if left for several years.
