Godfrey Hirst & Feltex at Hotel Pullman Mascot

The Hotel Pullman Mascot at Sydney Airport is a sight to behold. Designed by award-winning WMK Architecture and SODA (Thailand) Architecture + Interiors it shines like a beacon from the rapid-growing industrial zone just 15 minutes from Sydney Airport.

Spanning 12 floors, the 229 room luxury hotel’s interior design concept was based on ‘finding and creating the balance’ between the difficult demands of business travel and a comfortable relaxed lifestyle while on the road.

Large ceiling suspended fixed glass digital projection screens animate the double volume space with flight information and vibrant digital art. Stainless steel riveted wing shaped bars and counters, industrial lighting fixtures, glass wine walls are contrasted with large warm wood dining tables, natural leathers and textured fabrics.

‘From the spatial design, the juxtaposition of industrial and natural materials, contemporary furnishings and fabrics, patterns and artworks, we sought to create this sense of balance,’ SODA Architecture + Interiors.

The Carpet

The carpet designs create drama and grandeur in each and every space. Open plan guest rooms feature Godfrey Hirst carpet created on the world class Designer Jet using 1.95m wide carpet. The pattern, also referenced in translucent glass panels, is inspired by the eucalyptus trees surrounding Sydney.
Custom woven carpet in contrasting black and grey in the conference room and pre-function spaces feature strong geometric patterns with a 3D effect. The cubic references continue in the wall panelling and ceiling cut-outs.

The guest corridors feature a custom woven Axminster carpet with navigational headings similar to that found on international airport runways. This corresponds perfectly with the compass headings of the structure and the red overhead downlights that follow the hallways.

Handcrafted rugs line the lobby where the aviator theme continues with industrial metal claddings, local natural stone floors and industrial stainless steel perforated mesh panels inspired by vintage DC-9 aircraft and industrial neighbourhood structures.
