The dynamic lifestyle hospitality company, Ovolo, chose the 100 year old Finger Wharf in Sydney as their latest Australian venue.

Following the success of the Ovolo Laneways in Melbourne, the Hong Kong-based company enlisted Hassell Design to reinvigorate the iconic location and bring the brand’s vision to life.

The spectacular refurbishment earned Hassell Design a spot on the shortlist for the Interior Design Excellence Awards 2016.

“The hotel embodies everything the brand stands for – young, energetic, cheeky, accessible and effortless,” says Hassell, “and is evident at every touchpoint from the employee’s’ uniforms through to the most pervasive design decisions.”

As with all of Ovolo’s interiors, guests are at the heart of the design process. There are eight unique guest room designs, deliberately atmospheric, luxurious and quirky. Each boasts generous in-room inclusions (superfast wifi, continental breakfast, in-room snacks and liquor), custom lighting and locally commissioned artworks.

“Since 2002, we’ve been on a mission to redefine modern hospitality by creating new and intuitive concepts that deliver from the customers’ point of view,” says founder Girish Jhunjhnuwala.

With an established design aesthetic, the rooms at the Ovolo needed carpet that could pack a punch. With locally sourced products and luxury at the heart, Godfrey Hirst quality wool carpet fit the brief. The Caribbean wool carpet in San Juan is soft and textured, the level loop pile construction gives the flooring a subtle grainy texture. Speckles of colour throughout the heathered yarn add a textured depth.

The versatility of this stunning neutral carpet is never more evident than in this project. Where each room varies in colour, style and artwork, this wool carpet clearly holds its own.
