River rival
Nick Zampelis's Waterfront restaurant is being resurrected in nearby digs at Southgate, in a move that will provide direct competition for Atlantic, the 300-seat seafood restaurant connected to the Clamms group and headed by chef Donovan Cooke.
Atlantic's lure led Crown to ice Zampelis's Waterfront and Cafe Greco, which enjoyed prime river frontages (Espresso, January 19). The never-say-die Zampelis will be popping up in the ground-floor promenade site vacated last week by the 18-year-old eGusto and neighbouring Bistro Vite (vacating in September) after a major overhaul, part of a big splash by the Dexus property group, owners of Southgate, to revitalise the tiring 20-year-old complex. Expect (another) massive 300-seat seafood restaurant to open in early December.
