Located at the old Hellenic Club on Sydney’s Castlereagh Street, Alpha Restaurant fuses modern and traditional Greek styling to offer a chic yet unpretentious venue brimming with versatility.

Created by acclaimed interior designer Paul Papadopoulos of DS17, the space is an opulent interpretation of “Grecian modernism”. It is about creating a unique environment with grandure whilst creating a fresh contemporary dining experience.

White-washed walls and sleek cream elements give the entire venue a hip and modern vibe, while the existing heritage features of the site, such as soaring ceilings, exposed columns and rough-textured brick, nod to Alpha’s old-world charm. A dramatic handcrafted feature wall inscribed with ancient Greek lettering adds to the interior’s antique grandeur.

The rooms are finished with eclectic light fittings, simple yet elegant table settings and a range of stylised seating options, including black wicker recliners and chic grey felt lounges.

Encompassing an artisan food emporium, cantina, meze bar, cafe and restaurant, Alpha Restaurant offers guests a sophisticated backdrop for drinking, dining and entertaining.

“The brief was to come up with a dynamic space within an already beautiful old building,” commented Paul Papadopoulos. “To create and compliment the chefs vision of delivering the best Greek culinary experience in Australia.”

Paul’s guiding principal was based on the process of reducing the architecture down to its essential concept of space, light and form, with the final goal of inciting a positive human response in the space.

The facade of the building is amazing in its stature and really ties the concept together. The internal height and columns create an amazing grandness to the space.

Lighting was a major part of creating the unique ambiance within the space. All of the feature lighting was custom made to suit the Alpha vison of Grecian modernism….creating life, form, shadow.
