Those with a sweet tooth or cocktail craving are in for a treat with Brisbane’s original dessert cocktail bar opening its doors at South Bank.

The first of its kind in Queensland, this low-lit, slinky bar oozes an ingenious combination of naughty and nice, offering distinctive craft cocktails and devilishly decadent desserts.

The venue has been designed as a unique, relaxed “whitewashed” waterfront-style dessert bar blending a variety of commissioned features and uses of timber and other materials drawing on the “beach” theme of Brisbane’s Southbank precinct

The walls are simple whitewashed American Oak veneer with old-fashioned vertical Oak wall strapping, providing a bright “seaside” feel during the day and a warmly illuminated backdrop in the evenings.

Flooring for the indoor space is laid-back, “beachy” whitewashed timber boards.

The ceiling features sound-absorbent black-coloured acoustical flocking providing a dramatic backdrop to 250 suspended fibreglass stylised cow udders hanging at various heights, some internally illuminated, some not, all softly swaying in the evening breezes resulting in a mesmerising night-time ambience.

As a unique twist on a normal fast food dessert Outlet, Cowch features a bar along the footpath with dessert liqueurs, spirits and draught beers, not only to provide a more complete dessert experience but to provide another reason to drop by Cowch, if one is needed, on a hot summer day, really putting the “bar” in “Dessert Bar”.

Unique features include a circular recycled brick fire plinth with round glass canopy provides for further night-time warmth in the autumn, winter and spring evenings, a mirror wall with back-lit cow spot cut-outs makes for a surprisingly theatrical feature at night and a creative reflective feature in the daytime, white coloured deep cracked plaster walls both blend with the remaining white-washed timber walls while providing an intriguing feature for the astute patron, and a unique bench-top glass popsicle cabinet displays the delicious array of Cowch’s “naked pop” ice cream creations.

The audio system uses Acoustic Technologies latest generation MK range installation products. The MK series of professional audio products are a high end stylish next generation complete installation solution that encompasses 2 way loudspeaker systems and compact amplifier/ DSP products.

The top priority was to ensure the absolute best quality of sound possible however this wasn’t an excuse to let the look of the speakers impact on the décor of the venue.

Inside benefits from ten MK100 wide dispersion enclosures hung from the high ceiling using custom extension poles. The design and placement visually integrates the speakers perfectly with the funky lighting design to create an overhead spectacle that sets the designer tone of the venue. Two LGB03 sub bass enclosures sit underneath the unusually large common table, this location is nicely centered in the room to allow even sub bass throughout the entire space.

The solution for outside comes in the form of two colour matched MK75 enclosures in “Dulux Berry Grey”, flush mounted onto the solid metal sections on the mostly glass front facade of the venue. The naturally wide dispersion of the enclosures means that they evenly cover the outdoor seating space without projecting excess sound into the street.

The whole system is powered by a single MK8175 eight channel power amplifier with processing and control handled by a Symetrix Jupiter 8. A combination of Nightlife Music HDMS and DJs provide the entertainment from 11am til late 7 days a week.
