Unique features of this site included it being situated on a corner and its extraordinary ceiling height. Designer Nicholas Gurney was looking to achieve a 19th century rustic European home ambience.

The spatial limitations led to the design of a somewhat ingenious flip table where every second section flips onto the first to provide thoroughfare. Rigorous sourcing ensured materials are as old or older than the space they were trying to create. Materials are entirely salvaged, recycled or reclaimed. Genuine rusticity in the materials and in turn texture were sought. A limited colour pallet through the timber, brick and leather was intentional.

Lighting wise, the incandescent bulb is the oldest form of lighting and was therefore most suitable.

Bespoke, handmade chairs are crafted from recycled flooring.

The black façade and black kitchen block are designed to encapsulate the rustic farmhouse insertion.
