On Friday 17th of July, the GV Hotel won the prestigious Best Re-developed Hotel Award (for the whole of Australia) at the AHA National Awards for Excellence 2009.
After seven months and a complete refurbishment at the cost of over $5 million, the only recognisable feature left is the famous exterior of the old hotel. Inside has been beautifully redesigned and refitted and is truly remarkable.
Venue Manager Mark Hall spoke of the win. “We are really excited to be recognised by the AHA. The GV Hotel is a Shepparton landmark and it has been fantastic to see it restored to its former glory and beyond”.
In the expansive Main Bar, you will find a 25 metre long marble bar that winds its way in and around the vast room and sits under an ornate atrium decorated with wrought iron. Features include a large glass atrium and LED lit feature keg room.
The former Goulburn Valley Hotel was a tired venue which offered a limited menu via the hard edge semi-refurbished bistro/café, a worn out grunge style gaming room, nondescript separate function rooms with matching kitchen and outdated equipment, a small under-used public bar, a rather exhausted night club with first floor themed bars full of yesterday’s wild west memorabilia.
Firstly, TM design group addressed the functionality of the entire hotel its working components and its
local market, a new external identity was achieved through signage and repainting using a solid colour to reflect the mood of the internal atmosphere.
Generally the internal spaces have been boldly rearranged to better interact with the public, connect with the car park and access points. The night club was removed, a clerestory roof light installed with a first floor void to provide a spatial experience for ground and first floor patrons with all the benefits of natural light to the greater floor area created.
Similarly, the former gaming room roof was cut out to provide a generous courtyard to the new bistro which now enjoys natural light and al fresco dining.
All areas have been refurbished and decorated generally along the theme of a modern-traditional look with an emphasis on warm timber finishes, enhanced by classical joinery detailing and black ironwork. A warm palette of colours is carried through the materials and furniture to create a ‘fuzzy’ hospitality feel.
Clear attempts have been made to provide external courtyards, enabling natural light to infiltrate those abutting areas for a pleasant ambiance and accordingly a reduction in the reliance of artificial light/energy. New efficient air conditioning systems, hot water, and refrigeration equipment have been installed together with new rated appliances to reduce energy consumption.
JBL Control25T Weatherproof Speaker
The Control® 25T is perhaps the most versatile of JBL Professional’s Control Contractor Series indoor/outdoor loudspeakers. The JBL Control Contractor speakers provided an optimal combination of output and directivity, as well as a weatherproof design.
Features include:

Components: 5.25 in Polypropylene coated woofer, .75 in Titanium coated horn loaded tweeter.
Built-in InvisiBall® mounting hardware*.

Pulse Audio Visual supplied and installed a multi-zone audio and visual system, which is capable of displaying various audio and video sources simultaneously around the venue. This was required as there are so mny zones in the venue (Gaming Room, Bistro, Main Bar, Upstairs Bar & Lounge, DJ Area, Stage, Beer Garden and the outdoor balconies).
The staff can select the audio source and volume level for a zone from behind the bar, allowing them to hear what they are changing.
A dual-zone Nightlife Hard-drive music system, was also installed, and provides audio and visual content throughout all of the zones.
The downstairs stage is able to accomodate local bands, while there is a DJ Console upstairs.
