Greenbank RSL – one of Brisbane’s most established clubs, recently underwent an extensive refurbishment which has transformed the venue into one reminiscent of the super-clubs seen in New South Wales. Brand + Slater Architects collaborated with the Client and Builder to complete the project – the scale of which has never been undertaken to a Queensland Club.  Associate Director and Lead Project Architect, Cara Phillips commented that “the goal of both the Club and Brand + Slater was to provide a multi-faceted and revitalised venue that responded to the needs of patrons as well as the wider community.”

Claire Chair

The timber base has been carefully manufactured in Europe and cleverly design to highlight the timber work up the back of the chair. The seat and backrest has been upholstered to compliment the timber and highlight the design and shape.

Prototype

Encompassing most of the Club, the refurbishment focused on freeing up the constricting floor plan and internalised rooms through the creation of open and airy spaces. Solid walls were replaced with floor to ceiling glazing, flooding the newly-branded Garden Café with natural light and introducing the indoor/outdoor quality synonymous with the Southeast Queensland lifestyle. Complemented by a sophisticated palette of natural stone and timber finishes, the café’s atmosphere remains casual and inviting.

A seamless transition through zones has improved the RSL on a functional and operational level, with curved walls and screening taking you on a journey underneath a draped Barrisol ceiling. The lounge has an increased capacity for live entertainment and its mood reminiscent of an opulent cocktail bar featuring bespoke pendant lighting and furniture with high-end finishes.

Cubus

Travelling through to the refurbished casino style gaming room, a bold and masculine aesthetic is created with imposing pendant lighting dominating the ceiling.

The masterpiece that is the Grange Buffet truly is in a league of its own. Stimulating the senses, it showcases impressive six-metre high ceilings with bold overlapping ceiling panels and screens that aid acoustically whilst adding interest and detail to the large volume. Grandeur and luxury spring to mind when describing the space which is finished with warm toned fabrics, carpet and wallpaper. The sleek tailored stone buffets present patrons with an impressive array of culinary delights, including a sushi bar, interactive teppanyaki and seafood buffet. The popularity of the Grange Buffet is even now apparent with guests queuing at its doors – especially on the weekend.

The longevity and prosperity of Greenbank RSL has been cemented with this revitalisation project, delivering an extremely functional venue that successfully caters to the ever-changing and growing needs of its patrons and the wider community. With the anticipation to expand in the future, Brand + Slater Architects look forward to continuing their strong relationship with Greenbank RSL.
