The tavern is part of the Jimboomba Shopping complex positioned on a corner site with great exposure from the Mount Lindsay Hwy and Cusack Lane. The large eucalyptus trees along Cusack Lane are a dominate feature of the site and importance was placed on their preservation.

The design intent was to modernise the existing tavern to create a venue in which the whole family can enjoy. This was achieved by choice of finishes and reconfiguration of the tavern’s layout. The gaming room was relocated to the back of the tavern (the old function room) allowing for the bistro to increase in size. This allowed the space to open up onto an external terrace giving the patrons the option for outside dining. A new kid’s play room was also added with access form the bistro.

There are always challenges faced when undertaking a renovation of this scale. However, in order to maintain the large eucalyptus tree along Cusack Lane, the designers worked closely with an arborist and landscape architect to redesign the perimeter walls which encloses the terrace and grassed area, ensuring sufficient clearances were maintained around the base of the tree.

The main focus was to capitalise on exposure from the Mount Lindsay Hwy & Cusack Lane, hence the new perimeter structure and terrace area providing a source of activity and activation of the street frontage. The large new external terrace area provides a unique space for outdoor dining, drinking and socializing. The large raised planter and seating, with membrane roof structure over, provides a source of separation between the sports bar and bistro terraces allowing for external family dining in the bistro terrace. Whilst the large grassed area in front of the external terrace gives the tavern another option for functions and events.

Timber to the bar fronts and feature ceilings over bistro terrace provide a natural and organic aesthetic..

Dark colours are used internally with the use of timber to create a cozy and warm spaces. Bright colours externally are incorporated into the furniture selections. The landscape throughout softens and adds colour externally.

The large pendants in the gaming and bistro areas highlight the existing high ceilings and exposed roof trusses.
