The building needed to be extended 40m to the south to accommodate the new Kitchen and the club still needed to trade throughout the building programme. Other than that, there were no major obstacles just constant discussion with builder to resolve smaller issues as they arose on site.

Split Watermelon were aiming for a rustic, industrial style space with a focus on communal dining. The use of reclaimed materials particularly timber creates a very convincing aged feel to the space, even though it is brand new!

The lighting works to define different areas and create more intimate dining zones. Use of Edison globes to give a warm, vintage feel to space.

Special features include a full height illuminated bottle screen that creates a real focal point on entry to dining space. Cement hexagon tiles set randomly into concrete floor create interest to circulation spaces. Large reclaimed barn doors to toilet entry reinforce rustic feel.
