George Calombaris has launched the totally transformed Press Club Bar, into the now known Little Press and Cellar. Completely new, Little Press and Cellar has been turned into an uber-cool eatery and bar.
Known in Greece as a mezethopolio, a place to indulge in small sharing plates, it will provides everything that its mature restaurant sibling offers. A warm and welcoming relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful array of small tastes and meze (inspired by The Press Club menu).
It is a totally new concept for Calombaris and The Press Club Group. “I wanted to create an inviting eatery that anyone can drop in, at any time, to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, late supper or even a pre-dinner drink and meze before heading out”, says Calombaris.
From the fit-out to the food Calombaris describes Little Press and Cellar as “contemporary Retro Greek 60’s with a twist”.
Little Press and Cellar also provides a truly decadent dining experience, set in the basement of the Little Press, surrounded by The Press Club’s premium range of wines, The Cellar room hosts small private dining events with atmosphere.
The existing Press Club Bar has been had been operating for a few years with tight spacial constraints and food was serviced from the main restaurant kitchen via a series of small passageways with limited headroom.
The brief given to interior designers Mills Gorman Architects was to refurbish the existing bar and create a space with its own identity separate to the main restauraunt, with a focus more on food and wine compared to the original concept.
It was necessary to increase the seating capacity and provide a mix of furniture options within the space. A separate private dining room and wine cellar was required as was separate kitchen and service areas.
The main bar was rebuilt and reduced in length to provide the additional seating which is a combination of leather banquette seating and loose furniture.
Walls and toilets are clad in dark laminam panels. Tthe bar is finished in timber and black steel with mirrors introduced to enchance the sense of space within the bar.
A private dining room is located down a few steps where the fabulous wine cellar is on display and the custom made table draws reference from the printing industry with traditional wooden printers blocks set into the table under glass.mirrors on the ceiling magnify the rooms scale.
