Located in Australia’s largest tropical beachside city, Townsville, on the headland of The Strand is Longboard Bar and Grill. The recent refurbishments were designed to enhance the beautiful waterfront setting and to take advantage of the venues views across to Magnetic Island.

Inspired by the clients love of the ocean and the coastal lifestyle, the brief was to maintain the existing surfing and beach theme and make the most of the new outdoor area and its magnificent ocean views.  The colourful material palette was derived from its surroundings, the reds and yellows of the sunrises, and the blues and aquas of the tropical ocean.

The new bar stools, dry bar tables, picnic tables and booth seating were all made in Australia, much of it constructed by local craftsmen.

All of the new furniture had to be constructed from durable timbers to deal with the salt, wind and rain from its oceanside location. These were finished in a variety of colours and white washed so that the transition between the indoor and outdoor areas felt seamless.

There is a vibrant pop up bar located outside the “Captain’s Nook” to cater for functions and peak times making it even easier to unwind and chill with friends while overlooking the ocean.

Longboard’s relaxed design and atmosphere serves to enhance the social interaction of the patrons so that they can enjoy the sunshine and the fresh sea air, whilst reflecting the client’s motto of “Livin Long”
