Sitting just back from the pine scattered Redcliffe Coastline the refurbished Point restaurant has become the pinnacle for RSL design in Queensland.
The restaurants’ new design takes advantage of Queensland’s coastal climate and opens up onto the adjacent waterfront parklands. To capture the peace and serenity of this beachside location the double storey deck backs onto large expanse of glass windows allowing for a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor environment.
The refurbishment boasts all the key functions of an RSL which are further enhanced with a fresh, warm and engaging atmosphere that targets both a younger clientele without excluding existing members.
The stripped back interior exposes the original building’s brick and concrete fabric. This modest approach to the buildings existing structure has allowed for opportunities to expose the existing high ceilings and large openings to forge a stronger connection with the city. These exposed elements and services are covered delicately by a fresh, clean pallet. This union of existing and new finish become a feature through the spaces.
The colours and finishes take a break from the traditional heavy tones of a RSL to embrace a warm, light and naturally finished interior. These finishes contrast harmoniously with the final layer of geometric patterning which unifies the different spaces within the design.
A call for a range of dining styles within the restaurant has been sophisticatedly answered by creating a series of dining zones. The eye is drawn immediately to the geometric web cast over the central dining area creating a more intimate and exclusive atmosphere. The lounge and entertainment area pull away from this, taking advantage of the existing changes in floor levels. These different heights break apart each zone giving the individual space a sense of ownership. As the timber wall lining is one of the striking points of the restaurant, the enticing geometric pattern becomes the governing theme for the sports bar.
The pallet for the new sports bar and DOSA is a refreshing change from the existing. The combination of strong patterning and natural tones breaks up the spaces of the bar leaving a combination of intimate and large communal spaces.
The unique gaming facilities take its aesthetic cues from the geometric forms of the sports bar. Patterned metal plate wall and ceiling lining allow the natural daylight to brighten the room during the day while the interior lighting glows through the plate lining in the evenings.
As a benchmark for RSL and club design, the Point provides the local Redcliffe patrons and those just passing through, a taste of Redcliffe’s newest landmark.
JVG Sound Lighting and Visual were engaged to undertake a full design and supply package for the ground floor including relocating and fixing existing areas of audio and video, mics and CCTV.
JVG upgraded the whole head end introducing a Crestron CP3 control processor, audio DSP MediaMatrix Nion n6 with CAB 16i and CAB 16o expanders. All HD video distribution is by a Kramer Digikat 32×32 video switcher with complete TV control using Global Cache iTach power over ethernet devices and Kramer PT-572 recievers.
EZI control 22″ touch panels are located in all bars over both levels and reception.
JVG upgraded the inhouse wireless microphone system to the ShureSLX range with booster antennas in all zones and mic distributors located in the racks.
For the audio zones on the ground floor, such as the TAB sports and lounge, dinning, entertainment and gaming, JVG deployed J AudioSV6i and SV8i 2 way 6″ and 2 way 8″ timber speakers. These supply even coverage and quality of sound, all running low impedance and simplicity of the smart bracketing system.
Outside JVG used Bose FreeSpace DS 40SE loudspeakers. All amplifiers were J Audio DA series and Bose PM series.
JVG supplied 32 Pacific Communications CCTV EVO3 dome 700TVL cameras for the new ground zones and Pacific Communications DVR16 channel dvrs x 2. These are linked to an iPad app for ease of use from day to day. JVG upgraded and repaired all the CCTV zones within the club.
JVG used all Samsung commerical panels ranging from 32″ to 75″ for the ground floor zones, RVM brackets, and Kramer HDMI leads.
