Project Team

design: peckvonhartel

peckvonhartel’s project brief was to create a space that enabled the American Club to maintain the high standards and the array of services that the Club prides itself on while at the same time reduce the floor area occupied from three floors to one.

peckvonhartel team’s core design challenge was to meet the needs of the client within the new compact floor plan. This was achieved through smart design; incorporating a series of acoustic operable walls and mobile furniture solutions. At the same time the designers worked to ensure they maximised the inherent benefits of a space that provides a floor to ceiling glass façade, which hosts sweeping views to the east over the adjacent botanical gardens and Woolloomooloo beyond.

Upon entrance to the club the patrons will be drawn to the stunning white onyx counter that is backlit in order to accentuate the marbled detail; once in the space, the patrons are greeted with the lovely district views.

The surrounding backdrop of this space is made up of a walnut timber panelling that wraps around the reception hub and exposes a wine wall, which backs on to the main lounge area.

The lounge and dining areas are defined by the walls that take on subtle metallic tones, also referenced in the carpet tile. The selection of furniture ranges from fine dining to casual lounge seating; the walnut stain applied to the chairs and tables is complemented by the timber panelling. A combination of feature pendant lights are set to cast intricate shadows throughout the space and will be harmonised with the use of movable aluminium dividing screens. The screens provide a nice aesthetic as well as a functional addition to the room.

The bar is located at the end of the entrance corridor and again features a subtly lit onyx slab as its centre piece. The two dining rooms are situated just off the lounge area and are serviced by a

commercial kitchen. The operable walls for the lounge and the dining areas have the ability to fold back, allowing the space to be opened out and used for larger functions.

Another club feature is the business centre that is located on the western façade of the floor. The business centre hosts four meeting rooms and will meet the clubs daily operational needs. Club patrons can utilise the business space to connect wirelessly to a laptop and to use the in house AV and printing facilities whilst enjoying the hospitality that is provided by the club.
