The Butterworth Bar and Kitchen is a stylish new bar, restaurant and café located in Exchange Plaza, in the heart of Perth’s central business district.

Positioned on the ground floor of the Stock Exchange building meant the venue needed to be executive lunch and meeting friendly, and also cater for the after work drinks crowd.

The décor is a mix of vintage and modern, wood and glass providing a sophisticated and relaxed atmosphere.

Pressed tin to the bar face  and giant pillars coupled with a mix of blackened steel, wood, living walls, vintage inspired lighting and pops of colour in a muted lime green and sunburnt orange set the somewhat eclectic tone to the venue.

Custom shelving was built on top of the existing bar top to deliver a clear distinction between the dining and bar areas. This also provided much needed storage and display opportunities for the fabulous wines available.

Two oversized custom built communal tables offer sufficient room to double as meeting spaces or for social settings/functions.

A mix of ottomans and built in couches provide casual lounging areas for small or medium sized groups to meet and enjoy the eats and drinks on offer.

Pietra Bedonia tiles were used in the café area in preparation for the scheduled upgrade of the main building lobby. With a seamless union in mind, full height retractable glass doors have been installed to create an uninterrupted path from lobby into the venue during the day. At night, sheer curtains are drawn in front of the doors to obscure the view into the closed lobby and create a more intimate setting.

Lighting Options

Lighting Options teamed up with owner Keith Ashley to bring new life to this space at the base of the ASX building in the city. Using vintage brass picture lights, Dean Philips Edison pendants and Shady Lady pendants (with black silk outer and a copper leaf interior), plus Evolve Edison Crew chandeliers, Lighting Options created a warmth and old world charm that transformed the feel of this bar and eatery.

No longer slick and uninviting, The Butterworth now has much more charm and appeal thanks to the power of great lighting.

Audio hardware is from Lab Gruppen and is controlled by a Sonos multi room system which allows us to alter volume levels and tracks across the 4 areas of the venue.
