design: Design Clarity

With the recent cupcake phenomenon hitting the streets of Sydney, our Design Clarity’s brief was to stand out from the crowd. More ‘sex in the city’ than twee 50s domesticity – this store concept has none of the frills or lace doilies of its competitors. It’s all about the cupcakes. Dine in or take away. Try one today!

Faced with a corner site in a high traffic zone in the Westfield Sydney development, Design Clarity succeeded in creating a vibrant retail space to grab the attention of fast-paced commuters and city shoppers. The cupcake glass display counters are brought forward to the lease-line to tease, tempt and delight new customers. Inspired by the idea of a jewellery box, the window display is clad with faceted mirror and hanging plants providing a platform for changeable displays for different times of year (Easter, Christmas, Valentines Day and Melbourne Cup).

Materials used include 30x30mm Carrara marble mosaics, Carrara marble slab stone, Viridian grey smoked mirror and Faceted silver mirror. Surfaces include greybox timber counterfront cladding from Sydney flooring, ‘Cardboard’ wall tiles from Academy Tiles, Tasmanian Blackwood timber veneer shelving, Staron solid surface benchtops and
Pearlescent ‘Candy’ perspex shelftalkers.

The Catalina wrought iron seating screen is from Zuku furniture, the antique solid brass furniture door knobs from Watson Brass and the wire cake stands by Le Forge. Custom pendant shades and retractable timber arms.
