Casual. Unpretentious. High energy. Designed by Melbourne-based leading architects and interior designers, Mills Gorman, The Merrywell’s designers maximised the site’s expansive views of the Yarra River and created a series of inviting spaces that matched with eye-catching posters, unexpected design details such as an illuminated wall made out of 9000 beer bottles and clever service areas combine to create one of Melbourne’s most innovative dining spaces.
“Merrywell gave us an opportunity to create a place that captures the essence of Melbourne’s “gastronomic pub” culture,” commented Craig Gorman of Mills Gorman. ” A place to get away from it all, a place to relax, a place to enjoy, a place for good times. It is a place full of choices.”
With an entrance directly off the river front, a double volume atrium with filtered sunlight separates the two levels. Ground floor offers the opportunity for a drink at the bar, in the courtyard or in a private nook. Food is on offer in the corner box where you can watch the world go by.
An abstracted steel and leather tree sculpture adorned with colourful glass lanterns leads your eye to the upper floor.
A geometric sculptured timber staircase leads you to the upper level where you will find a spot that suits your mood…a high stool where you can “check out the scenery”, a cosy couch in front of the fireplace, a private booth in the lounge, a stool at the bar, a seat in the dining room or a spot on the all weather terrace where you can watch the sun set or the city skyline lights at night.
Brintons Custom Carpet
The interior concept incorporated an array of beautiful reflective surfaces and finishes and it was essential for the flooring design to work with the idea of play on light and reflection. The carpet suggests a feeling of movement through the room by creating the illusion of shafts of light dancing across the floor. The carpet was woven in Brintons performance Axminster specification using Brintons own 80% wool, 20% nylon blend for luxury, comfort and performance.
Wheatstone Commercial iXO
An expandable DSP audio platform using router based audio mixing and signal processing via an intuitive software interface. This unique architecture allows for much quicker system configuration and design, allowing you to create highly complex audio systems in minutes. No more dragging or dropping, or having to monitor the DSP resource meter while you design your system. All of the processing is there where you need it and is available to use, at any time.
POV worked closely with Crown Projects, Mills Gorman Architects,Production Audio Services and Corporate Intelligence to produce an outstanding result. Close attention was paid to the architectural detailing so that the EAW boxes required to deliver the quality and volume of sound were, where possible, integrated into the interior design.
The permanent DJ booth on the first floor provides live inputs for system while the touchscreen behind the bar gives the manager zoned input and volume control as well as full TV control. Following the success of Merrywell Melbourne, Point of View have been commissioned as Audiovisual Designers for Merrywell at Crown Casino Perth.
Speakers installed consist of EAW DC6, EAW JF8, EAW MK2326,
EAW 250ZP, EAW 150ZP, EAW 120ZP, ECLER AMBIT 108 and
Tannoy 801 DC with EAW UX8800 speaker processors.
Amplifiers driving the system are Powersoft Q3002R, Powersoft K3,
Powersoft K2, Powersoft K3 DSP, Powersoft M28Q, Powersoft M50Q,
and Power Soft M30D.
A Wheatstone IXO 32×24, a router-based DSP Audio Platform that gives you extreme flexibility in designing, configuring and changing your system, was also installed.
