In the depths of Toowong’s iconic Regatta Hotel a new bar is born. Clandestine yet comfortably sophisticated, The Walrus Club diversifiesBrisbane’s bar scene, offering a sensuous experience themed around rum.

Finding The Walrus Club is not an easy task as there are no signs or entry statements to be found - but this fuels the fascination. From the car park, a short flight of stairs leads through an unassuming set of black wooden doors where one enters into the cellar of the Regatta Hotel.

B Seated Global

Immediately the dimly lit space and warm brick walls evoke feelings of comfort and familiarity but at the same time an intense curiosity as to what lies beyond. A rabbit warren of intimate, interconnecting spaces ensues, each with its own subtleidentity based on rum and the 1920/30’s Temperance Movement (Prohibition).

Comfortable leather lounge chairs, rough-sawn timber crates and cast iron framed stools furnish the rooms accompanied by Art Nouveau lamps and candles which scatter dappled light throughout. The bars themselves feature copper sheet with solid timber tops, backed by an impressive selection of exotic rums and spirits.

Lee Broom Decanterlight

The Clear Crystal Square Decanterlight can glow in clusters or individually, creating a majestic centre piece wherever they hang. Each light is made from a lead crystal drinks decanter sourced from antique markets and vintage shops. Available in natural clear crystal, frosted crystal, or polished gold.

Cafe Culture

This speakeasy is the perfect place to settle-in and enjoy the finer experiences of rum. Designer Brand + Slater Architects worked closely with owner Spirit Hotels to create a venue that acquaints its patrons not only with the many varieties of rum and rum-based cocktails but also its history and associations.

The realisation of a venue that specialises in one beverage type is rare in Brisbane. The Walrus Club’ sfriendly and knowledgeable staff, refined product selection and a synonymously conceived fit out, all work in harmony to defin ea place that transcends its perceived niche market by offering a quality, well-rounded experience that can be enjoyed by all.
