After undergoing a significant transformation, The White Cockatoo in Sydney’s Petersham has reopened as West Village – the first project from Goodtime Hospitality.

The West Village is designed around the idea of a precinct, a village. It contains various stories from the dark smokey corners of the sports bar, the old glamour of the central lounge bar, the garden bar and glasshouse under the exposed timber structure and huge sky window, through to the Winter-garden and the old lean-to shed. It feels very diverse, very experiential, incredibly beautiful.

The most engaging design highlights are those lost secrets that were found hidden behind the buildings old walls, floors and ceilings. The building gave back its old pale brickwork, concealed archways, heritage ceilings and amazing timber ceiling joists. It is an amazing process of archaeology, or reclaiming what had been lost.

The stone tile floor inlays are modeled around the original floor mosaics which were found when uncovering the floors. The brick floor details and brick bar wall, are a reference to the old walls which once stood in their position.

Textures include the old sandblasted ceiling structure uncovered during demolition and the scraped back plaster and stucco walls to the winter garden covering the partially sandblasted old walls.

Design features include the beautiful reinterpretation of the old wall tiles to the sport bar and central lounge and the incredible heritage sky/cloud artwork in the central lounge.
