La Lola is a trattoira-style restaurant located on Hampden Road in the inner city suburb of
Nedlands.
The project brief was to create a casual yet sophisticated Trattoria-style restaurant drawing
elements from the traditional infomal Italian eateries with a contemporary, modern edge. The
restaurant is divided into 2 dining areas; the front restaurant and the back waiting area. This
allowed the creation of 2 contrasting rooms, which come, together through the clean and
elegant design and detailing as well as the selection of materials.
Through the use of the two dining areas the restaurant maximizes its modest 92sqm footprint as
a 54 seater restaurant. Refinement and familiarity are the key aspects to this fitout; while the
front dining area uses a warm colour palette and more textural, tactile materials, the rear
waiting room has been created with a more exclusive, private, predominately black aesthetic
with the main focus being on the striking Flos 'Zeppelin' pendant and the sultry gaze of Gina
Lollobrigida in the full height mural to the back wall.

Materials selected and detailing employed create a sense of period and refinement. Burnt orange
calf leather on the banquet seating was detailed with a diamond pattern stitching detail reminiscent of classic Italian luxury sports cars. This creates an intuitive connection to classic
elegance, quality and a bygone era.
Bespoke oversized, textural, black flowers created out of an acoustic fabric give dimension and
subtle detailing to an acoustic treated wall within the waiting room. These float arbitrarily above
the bronze mirror and dark chocolate leather banquet seating, similarly detailed with diamond
pattern stitching. The use of Pietra Grey marble and American Walnut veneer throughout, add
additional luxury, warmth and patterning while giving cohesion to the spaces.
Contemporary techniques and applications combined with traditional detailing makes this
restaurant a unique, inviting space that welcomes and envelops patrons.
