Andrew McConell's newest restaurant in St Kilda called for a subtle, yet highly considered response to showcasing modern Asian cuisine. The design of Golden Fields was overseen by Melbourne architectural firm Projects of Imagination and came together through a collaboration of ideas from artists, designers and specialist trades people such as metal worker Robert Hooks and Melbourne ceramic artist Shane Kent, who was commissioned to hand-make plates and individual wall tiles that span the entire bar. This craftsmanship and attention to detail in the design complement Andrew's approach to cooking. The result is that every element of Golden Fields is clever and considered.

The design process worked back from the macro; from ingredients, to signature dishes, to tableware and furniture, the design details became transparent, natural and light, to be experienced more intimately in harmony with the food. Nothing is overwhelming or overpowering which allows the focus to rest entirely in the experience between the customer and the food.

Crafting the interior called on collaborations with local and international artisans to provide an old world tangibility. Bespoke white crackle tiles and tableware were hand made by Kent & Others, the skewed display boxes, with Yves Klein blue reveals by metal fabricator Robert Hooks.

Many of the fixtures and fittings were custom designed by POI including the tables, tall fixed stools, POS stations, magazine wall mounted unit, chicken feet hooks, bar side steel display boxesand rear mirror. The wall tiles were also custom designed by POI in collaboration with Kent & Others.




Serge Mouille lamp


All Serge Mouille lamps are manufactured in France using the same forms designed by Serge Mouille himself. The family has kept the same tradition of quality in these re-editions as were evident in the original lamps produced in the 1950s. Each lamp arrives numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by a member of the family. All shades are mounted with a brass ball and socket joint which allows them to swivel and the lamps are painted in either white or black.
