Wig

by Chris Hardy, 2011

When I was conceptualizing this design I was inspired by the of society-a unique, organic social structure formed through the relationships that connect an individual to a greater community. This idea of a single mass constructed of smaller individual elements I found to be an interesting concept to visualize through form.

Chris Hardy: "Having the opportunity to work with Fontana Arte on this fixture has been an incredible experience. The designers and visionaries who have previously worked with Fontana Arte have been a source of inspiration for me and I am humbled to be a small part of the long and well known history of this brand. I believe my collaboration with Fontana Arte has produced a beautiful product that I hope will be enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed working on it. When I was conceptualizing this design I was inspired by the of society-a unique, organic social structure formed through the relationships that connect an individual to a greater community. This idea of a single mass constructed of smaller individual elements I found to be an interesting concept to visualize through form. The form is comprised of many pieces delicately working together, creating a larger mass. A single piece on its own is seemingly insignificant, but when arranged together a greater form is revealed. This composition gives the fixture a unique character, adding life and personality to the object and furthermore, the context in which it is placed. It is important that a fixture with a character such this also have a name that carries with it, its own attached emotions. The nature of a wig is adornment, and its purpose is to give new life- much like that of a light. Not only does this name lend to its persona, but it happens to show a comparable aesthetic".
