Australian Gaming Flourishes with Brintons

Suburban clubs in Australia are flourishing. These venues, once considered unfashionable and outdated, are being refurbished to create well-designed environments that rival inner-city locations. Many clubs are now offering not just gaming facilities but also a great range of restaurants, cafes, entertainment and accommodation, which is attracting an expanded clientele.

Three clubs that best demonstrate this changing approach to design-led refurbishments are Orange Ex-Services' Club, Western Suburbs Leagues Club Campbelltown and Chatswood RSL. Each of these venues has had a part or complete refurbishment managed by Steve Brown from Global Projects NSW and interiors spaces designed by Simone Hsin from 1:1.6 Design Studio. Brintons was recently commissioned to create a bespoke carpet solution for each of these unique venues.

What was the client brief?
Orange Ex-Services' Club:

A unique heritage sculpture in the form of a feature wall dominates the length of the lounge area and provided the inspiration for the interior design direction at the venue.

Western Suburbs Leagues Club Campbelltown:

Western Suburbs had a plan to refurbish their gaming floor but urgently needed to expand their increasingly popular bistro, which became a higher priority. This created a challenge. Simone's brief to Brintons was to create a carpet design for the new bistro area, taking the existing older carpet on the gaming floor into careful consideration.

Chatswood RSL Club:

The owners of Chatswood RSL wanted to create a resort-style feel for their gaming lounge renovation, hoping to differentiate it from other venues in the region. Simone researched Brintons extensive design portfolio and chose a beautiful large-scale floral pattern from the Katagami collection, feeling this would successfully convey the feeling of relaxed elegance one might find at a resort.

Describe the solution that was delivered?
Orange Ex-Services' Club:

On visiting Brintons to deliver the brief for the carpet design, Simone discovered a sample of bespoke carpet she felt was almost perfect for the area. The Brintons design team set about recolouring the sample using an exciting colour palette of orange, rust and gold and re-scaled a large leaf motif to create a design that complements the large feature wall.

Western Suburbs Leagues Club Campbelltown:

Using the current gaming floor carpet as a base and taking inspiration from a picture of a gaming room in Macau that the owner liked, Brintons designers re-coloured and rescaled the gaming floor pattern adding new elements to modernise the design. A terracotta colour scheme was introduced to highlight the copper and gold-fringed screens which are an opulent feature of the new bistro space.

Chatswood RSL Club:

Brintons design team developed the design using deep charcoal as the background tone and vibrant crimson red for the large dahlia flower motif, the combination injecting an exotic and luxe feeling to the space. The owners were so delighted with the final design they were keen to see the large floral motif repeated through other fixtures within the venue resulting in the flower motif appearing as the hero element on a large etched feature screen.

What services did Brintons provide during the project?
Brintons provided a complete service package for these projects and used their design expertise to take inspiration from varied elements already within the venues as well as from their own collections. The use of flooded floorplans and woven samples were critical in showing the clients the scale and exact colouration of the proposed designs. Weave planning, estimating and installation services were also provided to ensure a seamless execution of the design from concept through to completion.

Client's reaction?
Having used Brintons many times in the past for other hospitality projects I know they are design-oriented and have the ability to understand my brief and bring my vision to life. They understand the way to design carpet that is not only beautiful but also clever with their use of colour placement to introduce texture that is so important for hiding wear and tear.
