Centre Wins Record Four Awards at Industry Event

The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has scooped the pool in this year’s Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) State Awards for NSW, winning a record four categories.

The Centre picked up the top awards for Meeting Venue - 500 delegates or more, Banquet and Catering, In-House AV services and Corporate Social Responsibility at the awards, announced at a gala dinner in Sydney last night.

Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said he was thrilled with the four wins, which set a new record for the Centre.

“These awards demonstrate that the Centre is not prepared to rest on its laurels,” Mr van Amerongen said.

“We are the nation’s busiest venue, but each day our team is thinking of new ways to extend the service we deliver to our clients.

“We’re determined to stay at the cutting edge of the industry in all aspects of our business, so it’s gratifying to win so many awards across so many key areas.”

The MEA awards were based on detailed submissions, which outlined the Centre’s business processes, showcased its innovation and creativity and demonstrated excellence within the business events sector.

Using case studies of various events, the submissions highlighted the Centre’s role in assisting organisers to reach their objectives, through flexible meeting spaces, creative technical production and design, innovative menus and environmental initiatives to make events more sustainable.

The contribution of the Centre to the industry was also highlighted, with the significant roles many Centre members play in the wider meetings and events community being a key strength of the organisation.
