Hotel Hospitality + Design

The second annual Hotel Hospitality + Design Expo 2011 opened yesterday at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. The expo is on until Wednesday 16 March and is packed with exhibits of the latest in hotel technology, entertainment, furnishings and design.

The Hotel Room of the Future brought to you by Philips, opened with a sneak preview for invited media. Just outside the Hotel Room of the Future, expo guests can play with the new Microsoft Surface, a fully integrated table where guests can order room service, find restaurants and theatres nearby, even hold meetings using the touch screen technology.

The tour starts with the latest MyStayManager smartphone technology that allows guests to reserve, check-in and manage their in-room dining and spa requirements via their mobile phone. Even opening the room door provides guests with a view into new lock technology called Open Ways which allows guests to unlock their door using a unique tune sent to their mobile phone or hand-held device.

Inside the room, guests are treated to the world’s first 58” Full HD 3D cinematic proportion LED TV for hotels, the Philips Cinema 21:9. Guests can control the ambience of the room via the TV using Suite Control software where closing the curtains, changing the lighting and adjusting the air-conditioning are merely the click of a button away. The King Koil zero gravity bed from AH Beard with ergomotion articulating base and massage facility tempts everyone who sees it.

The Dulux Refurbishment Stage, brought to you by Dulux was in full swing with renowned Australian designers Michaela Steenson from design firm Danona and Eminé Mahmet from design firm KPS conducting a make-over of two bathrooms and one bedroom to different standards and budgets. The Dulux Refurbishment Stage will take place 3 times per day during the expo.
