Merivale's Tank to close

The Merivale Group has announced it plans to close down one of its popular Sydney nightclubs, Tank, in order to turn the site and the laneway it is located in into a small bar and restaurant hub.

A spokesperson for Merivale confirmed reports that the Tank nightclub will be closed after Easter to be redeveloped into an active laneway that will make use of the entire façade with food and beverage facilities that will operate six days a week, day and night.

Merivale has already accomplished a successful laneway redevelopment in Ash Street, which is located behind the Ivy, another one of its venues; however the groups CEO, Justin Hemmes, told this weekend's Australian Financial Review that the Bridge Lane redevelopment will be different.

The Tank Nightclub opened in January 2001, behind the Establishment Hotel, and has since won several awards, becoming a popular venue for dance music lovers by hosting some of the biggest names in local and international dance music.
