JBL CSS 8000 Commerical Ceiling Speakers

In an effort to fill every conceivable gap in the ceiling speaker market, JBL have become fed up with you buying random brand ceiling speakers from anyone who can knock one up for less than the price of a decent lunch and have decided to introduce something that actually sounds good and still leaves you change for a beer once you have installed them in your job. Honestly.

What are these wonders I hear you ask? The new Commercial Series affordable ceiling loudspeakers provide excellent performance for paging and background music applications including retail stores, restaurants, schools and other public facilities. High sensitivity provides maximum sound level even at low tap settings, and wide dispersion ensures excellent coverage. Triple voltage transformers (100V, 70V and 25V) are compatible with any distributed speaker system, and the Commercial Series even meets UL1480 and UL2043 requirements for use in plenum ceiling spaces, so long as you use a UL listed backcan, which of course is also available as an option for these units should you need them.

The drivers all feature a full 25 mm (1 in) diameter voice coil with a Kapton™ coil-former and high-temperature wire for superior power dissipation and long-term reliability. The driver, grille and transformer come pre-assembled for ease of installation. Accessories include matching Commercial Series pre-install back cans and tile rails.

First of the 3 models is the CSS 8004.

A 4" (100 mm) Ceiling Speaker which has a high 90 dB sensitivity, a 5 Watt multi-tap transformer for 100V, 70V and 25V distributed lines. It has a very wide 175° coverage and fits the optional CSS-BB4 backcan.

Then the CSS 8008.

An 8" (200 mm) Ceiling Speaker with a high 96 dB sensitivity and 5 Watt multi-tap transformer for 100V, 70V and 25V distributed lines. This one has a 120° conical coverage and fits the larger optional CSS-BB8 backcan.

Lastly the CSS 8018.

Another 8" (200 mm) but high-output Ceiling Speaker. This one has a very high 97 dB sensitivity and a larger 10 Watt multi-tap transformer for 100V, 70V and 25V distributed lines. It also fits CSS-BB8 backcan.

Finally, the most important bit - pricing. The CSS 8004 has a list of $35.45 ex GST. No, really. Told you it was less than a decent lunch. The larger models come in at $44.55 ex GST and $62.73 ex GST for the CSS 8008 and CSS 8018 respectively.

So there you have it, a cost effective ceiling speaker with a name you actually have heard of! Available right now
