Hamer to get jazzed up
Frank and Sharon van Haandel and the team from the Van Haandel Group have won the tender for the dining space in the Hamer Hall redevelopment at The Arts Centre, Melbourne. The space will be called Trocadero, after the dance hall that existed at the site in the 1920s, and will have a brasserie of 120 seats, with a terrace for 60 people, and a bar that holds up to 80. Arts Centre chief executive Judith Isherwood says: ''They [the Van Haandel Group] genuinely understood what we were trying to produce here, to appeal to a broad audience and bring in new audiences.'' Frank van Haandel says the space, which has a 60-metre river frontage, is ''awesome''. Three more food and wine outlets in the complex will be leased in the next few months. Watch this space.
