Bringing tapas-style eating and fine wine drinking to Newcastle's trendy Darby Street, this bar and restaurant is a perfect people-watching spot. Get in early though; it's generally packed to capacity, particularly on weekends.

The Depot on Darby Street is the amalgamation of two previous seperate buildings and uses, one being a florist and one being a milk bar, to create a new restaurant and bar on this well known cafe strip in Newcastle.

The concept is deliberately industrial as the bar was the starting design point using custom remodelled shipping container panels to create the bar fascia and the design developed from this. The industrial aesthetic also fits the overall grungy feel of Darby Street and was the antithesis of the domestic terrace house look the florist had, as well as getting across the depot brand identity.

The charcoal grey and yellow identity coupled with the finishes chosen epitomised the industrial aesthetic and allowed the brand to stand out on this strip.

The fit out incorporates corten steel paint effect panels and i-beams with the i-beams deliberately inserted to link the two once seperate spaces together. There is a charcoal grey studded rubber floor to match the building paint colour, reclaimed fence pailling furniture and Dindas board wall cladding.

Along with the i-beams the dindas board joins the two seperate spaces by cladding the full extent of the party wall between the two premises. Not only is the design eye catching and unique along Darby Street it also encourages sustainability with the re-use of items and materials. The restaurant has had a huge impact along this street and customers are certainly voting with their feet and making the Depot a very popular venue.
