Waller Design has previously worked with this client on another café fit out (in North Ryde) which had a natural material palette.

However this project needed stronger graphic imagery to work against the other retail spaces within the centre which had recently been updated with an urban theme using neutral greys and exposed concrete structural elements.

The scheme was decided to include yellow highlights against a background of black and white/ grey with 'honey' timber- hinting at the City Centre beach location. The project also required Waller Design to develop new company graphics to work back within the scheme which was formed around a casual 'coffee stain' imagery.

The scheme's use of geometry was originally inspired with the works of the artist Debra Dawes who uses some strong geometric patterns within her works in various shades of greys. Waller Design extended the language using black as highlight components to define the various areas – communal tables, banquette, signage and capping/ skirting to the 'kiosk' walls.

Timber flooring was used to clad the main counter and banquette seating to add warmth against the greys to the 'activity' areas while seating and signage are 'marked' in a yellow (selected to accent the neutral scheme while also hinting at the city- beach location). The large fixed communal table and banquette seating were employed to define and contain the seating zone within the otherwise open plan area.
