The Cottesloe nightlife has been given a much-needed addition with the recent opening of this mod-Oz-meets-the-horn-of-Africa-inspired cocktail lounge and restaurant.
The Africa-inspired venue is clad with candelabras, stripy hot-pink booths and ostrich-skin-covered ottomans, and, according to owner Doulene Walker, has a very Sex and the City feel. "There's lots of bright pink, black and silver. It's very funky - and I think Cott is lacking funky," she says. Walker, who migrated from Zimbabwe 23 years ago, has enlisted uber-chef Sunny de Ocampo to design a menu of sharing plates that combine foods from Morocco, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and other African nations.
According to designer AdriAnn Brown, the clients brief for Pink Zulu was to create an upmarket and relaxed space in which to enjoy African delicacies.
