Pink Zulu
6 Napoleon Street, Cottesloe WA 6011

The Cottesloe nightlife has been given a much-needed addition with the recent opening of this mod-Oz-meets-the-horn-of-Africa-inspired cocktail lounge and restaurant.

The Africa-inspired venue is clad with candelabras, stripy hot-pink booths and ostrich-skin-covered ottomans, and, according to owner Doulene Walker, has a very Sex and the City feel. "There's lots of bright pink, black and silver. It's very funky - and I think Cott is lacking funky," she says. Walker, who migrated from Zimbabwe 23 years ago, has enlisted uber-chef Sunny de Ocampo to design a menu of sharing plates that combine foods from Morocco, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and other African nations.

According to designer AdriAnn Brown, the clients brief for Pink Zulu was to create an upmarket and relaxed space in which to enjoy African delicacies.

As Redbrown specializes in combining unique and eclectic pieces with modern contempory design, this project was ideally suited to their company. Natural elements were used in all areas of the design which reflects the diversity of the African continant.

Specially imported beaded chandeliers add contrast to the rustic wooden bamilke tables, commonly found in Cameroon. Vibrant Zulu ceremonial headrests and a hand strung beaded wall hanging adds impact upon entry to Pink Zulu.

All  artifacts are specially imported by Redbrown and available exclusively through Adress Inside Out in Cottesloe.
