Urban, the boutique 4.5 star brand where guests are stirred but not shaken, that delivers accommodation with a twist, has opened in Brisbane following an extensive 2 year $10 million refurbishment.

From the king size Urban Snorer beds to the signature Tie Me Up Tightly bathrobes and premium amenities, the city’s newest property pushes all the buttons for those in search of that quirky style that exists outside the square.

Private balconies in each of the 180 rooms take advantage of the hotel’s elevated location on Wickham Terrace, providing guests with panoramic views of the CBD.

Custom-designed mattresses ensure an uninterrupted sleep while in-room features include cordless phone, LCD TV with Foxtel and pay-per-view movies and quality linen and towelling.

Even the ubiquitous hotel room digital clock has been replaced by a classic Tivoli analogue clock radio and guests will be greeted in their room by Cheetah, the hotel mascot.

Comment cards offer choices ranging from ‘amazing’ to ‘okey dokey’, ‘sloppy’ and ‘a shocka’ and there’s a ‘moo card’ on the mini-bar, known as Little Fridge, telling guests how to obtain fresh milk.

The Gazebo bar and restaurant with its extended outdoor dining area provides a relaxed, semi-tropical ambience in which to enjoy the best of fresh Queensland produce enhanced by a vintage chosen from Urban’s comprehensive wine selection.

Urban loves business – big business, small business, any business – and all rooms are equipped with a work desk and ergonomic chair as well as WiFi and ADSL broadband Internet access.

Urban also loves functions – conferences, weddings, ridiculously lavish cocktail parties or discreet business meetings and has the venues to cater to a broad palate of tastes.

On the 10th floor of the hotel, the space and elegance of The Panorama room is accentuated by 360-degree views of the city and the Roma street Parklands.

There are no glass ceilings at Urban but there is a mezzanine level above the Panorama Room which is the city’s best kept corporate secret.

This is The Sky Boardroom with an unmatched outlook over The River City , a corporate hideaway featuring integrated computer accessibility, motorised privacy and black-out blinds, 48” HD LCD with DVD, fully automatic espresso machine and a fully stocked mini-bar (charges, sadly, apply).

The Parkland Room, also located on the highest floor of the hotel, is completely pillar-less with glass panelled windows on two sides of the room to take full advantage of the view.

The Vista, on the ground level of the hotel adjacent to the Gazebo restaurant and bar, provides an intimate but relaxing venue suitable for meetings and private banquets for up to 40 people while The Boardroom on the ground floor is ideal for small meetings and conferences for up to 15 people.
